99% of the animes suck.

There's not much of a story, and everything takes so long. They always talk the whole episode, and every once in a while the last 5 minutes of the episode there's a nice battle that was very cool untill "To be continued" showed up on your screen. Also, all those blushing girls and falling in love boys.. We're not 10 anymore, are we? Cool heroes don't fall in love with pink hair girls..

Though, Cowboy Beebop and FLCL owned pretty much

The problem is that Anime tends to be fairly faithful recreations of their source manga. That is, some things don't translate well from Manga to Anime. Dialogue, flashbacks, dramatic effect and inner monologues sometimes are used/abused to stretch out an episode. This is because a lot of Anime is made while the manga is still being written so there is pacing issues. Strike while the iron is hot, so to speak. On top of stretched/made up scenes, lot of crappy filler scenes/episodes pop up. Dragon Ball Z seems to be the reigning champion of this.

Another thing that happens is an Anime will stray from the main plot and create their own. Hellsing is a good example, because the Anime did something completely different. However, they're now doing another season covering the Nazi Vampires invade England Story Arc.

I agree to some extent. Manga pacing is very difficult to translate into Anime pacing. This is the main weakness of manga to anime shows, imo. Shows like Inuyasha, Naruto, etc that border 300,000 episodes *(exaggeration).

My prime example of manga pacing gone horribly wrong is Prince of Tennis. In the manga, this works fine. But translated to an anime, a character has NO time to talk between volleys of a tennis ball. These animes tend to distort time for the sake of storytelling.

One of my favorites, Fullmetal Alchemist is from a manga but the anime storyline varies VERY heavily from the original source (Manga tends to be more violent) Its pacing is also quite fast with almost ZERO filler episodes, episodes that seem like filler episodes are really "setup" episodes.

I think the best example of an anime that doesn't pause time to have dialogue is the Macross series. Macross, Macross Plus, Macross Zero, Macross DYRL, Macross 7. If you ever watch any of these, the pacing and movement is very very fast in the action scenes. Characters are talking WHILE dodging missiles and explosions, not talking while everything seems to have stopped.

Filler episodes drive me crazy. As much as I love One Piece, I stopped following when they hit the Filler Story Arc after Alabasta. (Which...had filler episodes in it too :P)

The Kenshin Anime was the worst, though. It pretty much had two Filler Seasons after they finished the Kyoto Story Arc.

It probably wouldn't bother me so much if they didn't seem so out of place and awful.

Full Metal Alchemist (The Flame Alchemist is fewking kewl man, wierd mix of dark and amusing)
Neon-Genesis Evangelion (The epitome of nigh-incomprehensible anime storylines)
Puni-Puni Poemy (The most amusing thing ever, Nabeshin is as unto a god)
Excel Saga (The best line in anything EVER comes from this: "Pudding... Nooooo!" )

Excel Saga and Puni-Puni are both directed by one Shinichi Watanabe (Watanabe Shinichi when written in the Japanese fashion) AKA Nabeshin, a be-afroed gun-toting hero who randomly runs around in every anime he's involved in, fighting people, pulling machineguns from his afro and befriending Space Butlers. 'Tis awesome.

I have yet to see the Full Metal Alchemist movie but I understand the ending is bleak and that there's very little chance of a continuation of the storyline. Still, it was absolutely fantastic, although the deaths of one of the characters was totally uncalled for and very irritating since he was so damn cool.
